April 16, 2022Challis is perhaps one of the only airports anywhere located within the base of a meteor impact crater. Don’t worry though…. This geological catastrophe that created this 60 mile wide crater happened 600 million years ago and the runway ought to be stable. Look up the Beaverhead Meteor Imoact crater for more details.

Runway 17/35 recommend land runway 17; takeoff runway 35 when wnd conditions permit.
Runway 17 Visual Glide Slope iIndicators: Runway 17 papi unusable beyond 7 degs right & left of centerlines: runway 17 papi unusable beyond 2.5 nm from threshold due to terrain.
